What we looked for

For a family week, Lanzarote's answer is Playa Blanca, the town at the southern tip facing Fuerteventura. Its beaches are listed by the tourist board with calm water, Playa Dorada is 350 metres of fine white sand marked free of wind, and the Papagayo coves are 12 minutes away by road, €3 a car at the gate, by card. Both our family hotels are here, on the seafront east of the centre, 31 minutes from the airport by road off-peak; the direct 162-D bus reaches Playa Blanca in 20.

The choice between them is beach or pool. Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort opens onto Playa Dorada and is built around children, with a park, clubs by age and suites with a separate living room. Barceló Playa Blanca, opened in December 2023, is built around its pools, with a children's club and a teenagers' space, and Playa Dorada 13 minutes' walk along the promenade. Both work best for a week.

Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort is built for families. Capitan Park gives children 10,000 m² in the open air: pools of their own, a theatre, play areas, and courts for tennis, padel, basketball and football. Supervised clubs run by age: Ocean Bubble to three, Starfish from three to five, Sea Explorers from six to eight and Guardians of the Sea from nine to 13. Babies from four months have the Baby Club and its qualified carers, children up to eight have an indoor Soft Play next to the buffets, and every evening at 19:30 there is the Mini Disco.

The rooms are the other reason. The Suite gives a family 65 m²: a bedroom, a separate living room with two sofa beds for the children, a bath and a shower, and a microwave and kettle for bottles and snacks. The garden gate opens onto Playa Dorada's calm water, and parents get a seawater thalasso.

Barceló Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Barceló Playa Blanca is the family pick for pool days. The children's pool is heated and comes with a pirate ship and slides, with the Barcy Club and the Barcy Food & Fun snack bar beside it, and teenagers get their own space with a climbing wall. An entertainment team runs a programme for children and adults by day and by night.

The main infinity pool winds about 140 metres through the gardens with Fuerteventura beyond it, and sunbeds, parasols and towels are included, with plenty of loungers to go round. Opened in December 2023, the rooms are new, and every one has a balcony or terrace; the entry Superior takes two adults and two children. Playa Dorada's calm water is 13 minutes along the promenade, Marina Rubicón's restaurants about the same, and every rate includes breakfast.

At 37 m² it adds a separate living area, a bathtub and a separate shower, and it is sold for two adults with two children.

Every room, and why

Ask for a room close to the main building when you book: the resort is large, and short walks to the pools and the buffet help with small children.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Lanzarote

Which hotels in Lanzarote have a kids club, and for what ages?

Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort runs supervised clubs by age in Capitan Park: Ocean Bubble to three, Starfish from three to five, Sea Explorers from six to eight and Guardians of the Sea from nine to 13, with a Baby Club from four months. A Soccer School for ages five to 16 runs in some weeks of the year, and is paid. Barceló Playa Blanca has the Barcy Club, beside a heated children's pool, and a teenagers' space with a climbing wall; ask the hotel for the club's ages.

Is Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen better for families?

Playa Blanca, for most families. Its town beaches are listed with calm water, Playa Dorada is fine white sand marked free of wind, and the Papagayo coves are 12 minutes by road. Both our family hotels are there: Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort on Playa Dorada and Barceló Playa Blanca on the seafront nearby. The trade is distance: the airport is 31 minutes away off-peak, against 14 from Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen, and the Fundación César Manrique is 40 minutes by road.

Which Lanzarote hotels have family suites with two bedrooms?

At Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, the Family Suite is 88 m² with two bedrooms and two bathrooms in an annex with its own pool area, breakfast buffet and snack bar, sold for two adults with at least two children. The Royal Kids suite adds a themed children's room and a steriliser, bottle warmer, playpen, pushchair and high chair. The Duplex puts children upstairs on two single beds. At Barceló Playa Blanca, the roomiest family choice in the main hotel is the 37 m² Junior Suite, with a separate living area, for two adults and two children.

Do family hotels in Lanzarote have minimum stays?

Often, outside the summer. At Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort most rooms need four nights or more outside July and August, and in June the entry Double Superior needs seven, while the Suite needs four and costs less. Over New Year 2026 the shortest stay on sale is a week. At Barceló Playa Blanca the main hotel's rooms can be booked for a single night in May and June. Both hotels are built for a week, so that is the stay to plan.

Is Timanfaya good for children?

Yes, and it is close to Playa Blanca: the Islote de Hilario, the way into Montañas del Fuego, is about 30 minutes by road. The ticket includes a 35-minute coach along the Ruta de los Volcanes through the craters, with commentary in English. Children aged 7 to 12 pay €15 and under-sevens go free; adults pay €30. Tickets are sold only online, for a set entry time between 09:00 and 15:45, so book before you drive out.

How did you choose these hotels?

Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
