The catch at Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa
Five things sit between the photographs and the stay. Most are set out by the hotel itself, and none of them is a reason to stay away, but each one decides which board, which room and which week suit you.
On our shortlists
The spa is the reason to come, and every part of it costs extra, whatever your board
The hydrotherapy circuit, with its 14 m dynamic pool, Jacuzzis, sauna, steam bath, ice fountain and tea terrace, is paid for on top of the room, on breakfast, half board and the Unlimited-Luxury all-inclusive alike. The spa menu prices the circuit at €30 for an hour, €35 for a morning from 10:00 to 14:00, €45 for an afternoon from 14:00 to 20:00, €70 for a day and €95 for the whole stay, IGIC included. Treatments run from €110 for 40 minutes of pressotherapy to €250 for a 100-minute deep-tissue massage; the Volcanic Ritual, with Lanzarote lava, is €230. Everything is booked ahead through the hotel's app and paid by card at the time of booking. The spa opens daily from 10:00 to 20:00.
What to do. If you will use the circuit on four or more days, buy the €95 stay pass on arrival. Book treatments in the app as far ahead as you can, since every service needs a reservation.
There is no beach at the hotel, and the nearest sand is 42 minutes on foot
The resort's terraces step down to a rocky shore with no sand. The nearest beach is Playa Quemada, dark sand and pebbles, 42 minutes on foot to the west or 14 minutes by car round the hills. Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen, the long golden beach, is 13 minutes by car, and the Papagayo beaches 36. The Puerto Calero bus stop is 18 minutes' walk from the door, with line 24 to Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife and line 25 on to Costa Teguise. The marina promenade, with its restaurants and boat trips, is 14 minutes on foot.
What to do. Hire a car for the week: the airport is 18 minutes away, and Timanfaya, La Geria and the Papagayo beaches all make easy day trips. Otherwise treat the heated pools as the beach.
The entry Double comes with whichever view is free
Every Double is the same 30 m² room with a furnished balcony or terrace and a rain shower; what changes is the outlook. The hotel sells the entry Double as multiple view, which can mean the gardens or the mountains inland as easily as the sea. The Double Pool View faces the pools and the Double Ocean View faces the Atlantic. For Tuesday 8 June 2027, with breakfast, the Double was €202, the Pool View €225 and the Ocean View €259. After booking, the hotel opens an interactive platform where you choose the exact room yourself, so the view inside a category is yours to pick, not a request.
What to do. If the view matters, pay the €57 for the Double Ocean View, then use the room-selection platform as soon as it opens, before the best rooms go.
The à la carte restaurants come with the all-inclusive, and some need long trousers
Six restaurants sound like a lot of choice, and on the Unlimited-Luxury all-inclusive they are: Oceana, Portofino, Gohan and the Barefoot Grill are marked as included, with no reservation needed. On half board the dinner the hotel names is the World Café buffet, from 19:00 to 22:00, and a breakfast rate includes no dinner at all, so the à la carte rooms are not a given on either. The hotel also says that not every restaurant and bar opens every night. Oceana, Portofino and the Bluewater Grill keep a formal dress code: long trousers, a collared shirt and dress shoes for men, and dresses, skirts or smart trousers for women.
What to do. Choose the all-inclusive if the restaurants are part of the plan, ask at check-in which rooms open on which nights, and pack one smart outfit for dinner.
The Preferred Club keeps a pool, a bar and breakfast to itself
The hotel has four heated outdoor pools, and one of them belongs to the Preferred Club, the 125 rooms and suites with their own concierge, check-in and solarium. The Lounge, the club's poolside bar, is open only to club guests from 10:00 to 18:30, and club guests can take breakfast in a club-only restaurant as well as a continental breakfast in the lounge. Everyone else shares three pools. Club rooms began at €292 for Tuesday 8 June 2027, with breakfast, against €202 for the entry Double.
What to do. The club is worth it if a quieter pool and a private breakfast matter to you. If they do not, the Double Ocean View gives you the same 30 m² and the sea view for less.
Who should skip it
Beach-first holidays, since the sand is a drive away. Families, since the hotel is for adults over 18. Anyone who expects the spa in the room rate, or the à la carte restaurants on a breakfast rate, and anyone who does not want to drive or take taxis to see the island.
Who should book it anyway
Couples who want a quiet, adults-only week of pools, spa and long dinners. The hydrotherapy hall, with its 14 m dynamic pool under arcades of stone-clad pillars, ten Natura Bissé treatment rooms and four heated pools on terraces above the sea are a real reason to come, and the Puerto Calero marina is 14 minutes away on foot. Take the €95 stay pass, choose a Double Ocean View on the hotel's room platform, hire a car for Timanfaya and Papagayo, and the trade is well worth making.

A pool-and-spa resort for adults with a wellness hall of real substance, as long as you budget for the circuit and drive to the beaches. Check availability for the Double Ocean View.
