The catch at Hotel César Lanzarote

Four things stand between the photographs and the stay. None of them is hidden, and none of them spoils three or four quiet nights as a couple, but each one shapes the trip: the car, the calendar, the room and the evenings.

On our shortlists

  1. It is a house in the country, with no beach and nothing within walking distance

The hotel stands on a quiet country road at La Asomada, a village of scattered houses and vineyards in the municipality of Tías, on the hills above Puerto Calero. On foot, the nearest bar is a 23-minute walk along the road in Mácher and the nearest restaurant, La Tegala, 52 minutes. By car the marina at Puerto Calero is 7 minutes away, Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen 12, Bodega La Geria 9 and Arrecife 18; Timanfaya's Islote de Hilario is 24 minutes and the Papagayo beaches 31. Every beach day, every dinner out and every sight is a drive, and the house is set up for guests who make it: parking is free, and César Restaurant keeps spaces for diners arriving from outside.

What to do. Hire a car at the airport, 13 minutes away. If you would rather not drive, ask the concierge, who arranges transfers and restaurant bookings, to plan your outings before you arrive.

  2. Almost every date carries a two-night minimum, and Christmas costs more than twice June

The hotel sells almost every night of the year with a two-night minimum; from November 2026 to October 2027 only a handful of dates in November and early December could be booked for one. Its prices follow the winter-sun calendar. For two with breakfast, the Double Room is €342 to €380 a night from June to August, €380 to €404 in September and €404 to €428 in May. October climbs to €451 to €475, March and April run €475 to €546 and February €499 to €570. From November to January it costs €523 to €808, with Christmas at the top.

What to do. Come between June and September for the lowest rates, and plan on at least two nights, which is the right length for the house anyway. For Christmas and New Year, book early and expect more than twice June's price for the same room.

  3. The entry room looks at the volcano, and the sea starts at the fifth category

Every room has underfloor heating and the house's white walls, green details and black lava, but the view and the outdoor space are sold separately. The Double Room, about 25 m² on the ground floor with its own terrace, faces the volcano. The Double Room with Volcano View and the Superior Room cost more but sit on the first floor with no terrace, and the Superior Room with Terrace still looks only at the volcano. The sea first appears from the Superior Room with Terrace and Sea View: €523 a night for two with breakfast on Tuesday 8 June 2027, against €342 for the Double Room. The house has two of them.

What to do. If the sea matters, book the Superior Room with Terrace and Sea View early, and if both are gone, move up to the Junior Suite with Terrace and Sea View rather than across to a dearer room facing the volcano.

  4. The pool restaurant and the Sunset Bar are for residents, and the bar closes before the summer sunset

The house has two kitchens and a bar. The Pool Restaurant serves light plates from 11am to 7pm and the Sunset Bar cocktails and plates to share from 5pm to 7pm, both for hotel guests only and without booking. César Restaurant, open to outside diners too, serves lunch from 1pm to 3pm and dinner from 7pm to 9.30pm, and booking is mandatory: walk-ins may not find a table. From late March to late October the sun sets after the Sunset Bar's 7pm close, at about 8.50pm in early June, so in summer the bar is a golden-hour drink rather than a sundown one. In winter, when the sun sets around 6pm, it catches the sunset.

What to do. Book César Restaurant for your evenings when you book the room, and ask at check-in whether the Sunset Bar stays open later on your dates. In summer, a room with a terrace is the place to watch the sun go down.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants to walk to a beach, a bar or dinner, anyone who will not drive, and anyone hoping for a single night, since almost every date needs two. Also families with children under 16, who cannot stay, and anyone looking for a spa: there are massages in the old aljibes, yoga on request and an outdoor gym, but no spa.

Who should book it anyway

Couples who want three or four quiet nights and a car to explore with. Twenty rooms in a former Manrique family house with One MICHELIN Key, a pool looking over the hillside to the coast, breakfast in every rate, massages in the old water cisterns and César Restaurant's 13-course walk through the island, with Timanfaya 24 minutes away and the sea in view from the right room. Book the Superior Room with Terrace and Sea View, come between June and September, and every catch is answered.

A house in the vineyards with a pool facing the sea and a kitchen worth staying in for: the Lanzarote most visitors only drive past. Check availability for the Superior Room with Terrace and Sea View.
