The resort could feed you for a week without your leaving it: more than 40 restaurants across The Venetian and The Palazzo, from Bouchon and COTE to Grand Lux Cafe, open 24 hours, and the Via Via food hall off the Grand Colonnade. Stepping out means the neighbouring resorts, each ten minutes or less on foot to its Strip doors, and then often a long walk inside: Wynn to the north for a supper club and a lakeside bar, Caesars Palace across the Strip for a MICHELIN star, a buffet of more than 250 dishes and the Cronut, and The LINQ to the south for burgers and a big breakfast.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas: The bar at Thomas Keller's Bouchon

Bouchon

Michelin recommendedChef Thomas KellerThomas Keller's French bistro, on the tenth floor of the South Tower beside the Pool Garden

Thomas Keller's bistro has been here since 2004, a Parisian room of blue velvet banquettes, wood-panelled columns and old frescoes, with a patio for eating outdoors. Dinner runs nightly from 5pm to 10pm, with steak frites, escargots and oysters, but the reason to come is brunch, from 8am on Thursdays and from Friday to Sunday, when the crab Benedict and the crème brûlée earn the table. In pool season it also feeds the Pool Garden next door. Book the weekend brunch ahead.

The wine list runs past 1,200 labels. Dinner runs from 5pm to 11pm, and from 4.30pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays; book ahead.

Our verdict

Book The Venetian for a big remodelled suite with the pools, the canal, 40-plus restaurants and a covered bridge to Sphere, all without a taxi. Pay for the Sphere View, budget for the $55 nightly fee, and check your dates, since the same suite can cost nearly three times as much in a busy week.
